Mink Eyelash Extensions Rhode Island

Do eyelash extensions look fake?

Eyelash extension salon in Rhode Island

Mink Eyelash Extensions Rhode Island Blog By Jaclynn Kate

Salon phone is constantly ringing with questions about our eyelash extensions. How do they work? Do they look fake? Will they damage my own natural lashes? First things first, lash extensions are no 'new' services to salons. They are just now becoming more & more popular in the Rhode Island Area.

You should ALWAYS make sure you see a certified lash technician. Not everyone who went to cosmetology school went on to take additional education classes to preform lash extensions. ALWAYS make sure you see someones portfolio. Their as SOOOOO many times I go online & see other salons constantly advertising someone else work. Don't get me wrong, I've taken photos of super models off the internet & said come get your hair done like this chica in the salon...but I also have a full portfolio of mine & my girls work to back up the fact that we can indeed give you that specific look. Just make sure you have seen many before & afters before letting them touch your lashes.

Do they look fake? Well I guess if you want them to sure! Me personally when I go in for my lash fill, I say give me the longest fullest lashes you got! I mean they look amazing, but this isn't a Maybeline commercial and I sure wasn't born with these full black lashes. You can however ask for natural lashes that just add a little bit of length & fullness. It all depends on what YOU tell your lash tech that YOU want to see. Consultation is key!!

Will they damage my own lashes? Not if you take care of them properly. Meaning cleaning your face properly and being careful not to pull them out. The only other way you can possibly damage your own natural lashes is if the lash tech did a bad job & put the glue on your eyelid. The glue should never touch your eyelid!!

Here is a look at the before & after effects of a short to long natural look. Photo the the left shows the technician put on gel pads to hold down on her lower lashes preventing the lash glue from getting on her top lashes. Photo the the right is when her service has been completed. Giving her a soft natural look.

This client had a lot of lashes to begin with. Her complaint was the length. She received two different size of lashes that really opened up her eye!

Then theirs my lashes, I LOVE them. The longer & the fuller the better! Lucky for me, I already had a bunch of lashes so she could make mine that much fuller due to that fact.

Eyelash Extensions - North Kingstown RI Salon

Eyelash Extensions - North Kingstown RI Salon

Mink Eye lash Extensions

Salon in North Kingstown RI

Eyelash Extensions - North Kingstown RI Salon- By Jaclynn Kate

After months of researching the differences between lash extensions, I can proudly say we have hired one of the BEST lash extensionist in Rhode Island. Their were a number of things I was concerned about when hiring a lash tech. That being their experience, technique and certification. My newest stylist Haley is not only a certified lash extenionist but also a full licensed cosmetologist!

Chi lash extensions are real mink fur and my stylist has a killer portfolio to prove her skills. I myself was a little hesitant to get them done on myself being I have sensitive skin. So to test this out myself, I put a spot of glue on my hand & behind my ear for thirty minutes to see if my skin had a reaction. After I had no reaction I was sold! Let's do this!

I followed Haley into the lash room in the back of my salon and she did a full consultation with me. Then after removing all of my eye makeup and applying pads to my lower lashes so they wouldn’t get stuck, she got right to gluing. Haley explained that the mink lashes are by far the softest, curliest and most build-able out of all the different varieties of extensions, which allows her to achieve maximum volume and a highly natural look.

The process is crazy tedious (for the stylist, that is – you just have to lie there with your eyes closed!), since each of the individual extensions is dipped in glue, then attached to your lashes one by one. Haley determines the length and thickness of the mink extensions by each person’s own natural lashes, as well as the customer’s personal preference of how she wants them to look. I wanted thick glam lashes myself.

Here is my before & after! The process took her a full 90 minutes & for my ADD self I was dying a little inside lol. But the results are AMAZING and I can not ever live without them now. This photo shows me with no makeup on, so I wanted to upload one I took three nights later with makeup on.

Blonde Ombre By Jaclynn Kate

Blonde Ombre Hair

Ombre Hair Extensions

Can I Ombre My Hair Extensions?

Blonde Ombre By Jaclynn Kate

Anyone who knows me personally knows I am CONSTANTLY changing my hair. Also anyone who knows me knows I love & wear extensions. I'm actually kind of obsessed with my hair- well hair in general lol . Recently I was trolling through my InstaGram feed & saw a picture of this beautiful blonde with super dark roots & I just needed to have it on my head! I told my Stylist Carly she had to do this for me but kind of make it into an Ombre effect rather then just a one inch root shade.

Now my stylist Carly is pretty amazing, first reason being she deals with me always wanting something different on my head, secondly because she actually does my hair haha and third reason is because she is absolutely talented. Stating the fact that I always am changing my hair, I tend to only use semi-demi color. Semi-demi gently washes out after so many washes unlike permanent hair color which you're stuck with. So if you are consistently changing your hair every time you go to the hair dresser, I'd suggest speaking with him/her about their choice of color. It's much harder to get permanent color out of your hair if you want to go lighter then it is to get semi-demi color out of your hair.

So here's my look before we began with the process....

My roots were a 7GB in Redken Shades and my ends were toned with a 9GB. My goal is to bring my roots down to a level 3 and tone down the golden tones in my hair a bit. Ideally I wanted my root shade to be dramatic and have some pieces going through my blonde, somewhat like am Ombre, just not as intense as we typically see Ombres. Here are the results!

I absolutely love my look!
Thing is.. the color looks SO different in doors due to our Spot Lighting in the salon. It always makes colors & tones appear different & much more warm then they really are.
With that being said, in natural lighting this is how cool my blonde ending up pulling through due to the Blue that was in the level 3. Some pieces are so cool they almost look grey =] =] LOVE IT.

Multidimensional looks are absolutely stunning. Only issue we have in the salon is when a client comes in with a photo like the one above & says I want that. Nine times out of ten the color in the photo didn't happen in one sitting. My hair for example, for me to get to this hair color took four sittings.

I Need a Hair Makeover, Help! By Jaclynn Kate

I Need a Hair Makeover, Help! By Jaclynn Kate

2015 Hair Styles

2015 Hair Styles

Need a new hair styles for 2015 Summer by Jaclynn Kate

I hate when I get into a hair rut, and trust me, I get into hair ruts all the time. With celebrities constantly changing up their looks and us seeing something we like on TV, it's super easy to get bored with our hair. I know for myself, just being in this industry I hate seeing the same thing on my head month after month & have to change it up!

Some of the styles that we see sticking around this year are Bayalage, super light highlights as always, and a lot of pastel colors. I LOVE the pastel colors. Personally I wouldn't be able to pull this look off. I am more of a classic kinda girl, but man the ladies who can pull of that look- beautiful. Bayalage is a very classic yet trendy look I don't see going away anytime soon. It really adds a lot of personality to your look, rather then the traditional highlights- which are always beautiful too!

I had a new client come into the salon earlier this week. She had stated her sister sees me for her hair services & she has been following my blogs & needs a new look! I'm all about it I said, come on it. Upon consultation she explains she hasn't gotten a hair cut in over a year & has been using box color to color her hair-  box color, to any hair stylist that's like cussing at them - LOL

We went over some options and some ideas of things she likes to develop a game plan. Ideally she would like a slightly A-Lined short cut with light hair.

So we developed an idea of the style/color my client intended on getting done, however her hair on top was highly porus and putting a high developer on her hair wouldn't be best for the integrity of her hair. As I explained this to her she understood to get her desired look it would take more then one process to save some of the integrity in her hair. Last thing any hair stylist wants to do is make your hair fall out!!! Kind of not what a client is looking for!! So it's always best to keep it honest with your clients!

Her results were stunning. Our future intension is to get her highlights even lighter & continue to add dimension to her hair.

I took her base line and brought it up to the nape of her neck. Thus eliminating an excessive need to just throw your hair into a pony tail. Also stacking this look gives her the option to blow it out and gain volume, or wear it tasseled and sassy.

All in all, Alli adored her look & is looking forward to it being a work in progress while saving the integrity of her locks!

What is Keratin Complex?

What is Keratin ?

Will Keratin Damage My Hair?

Hair Salon In Rhode Island

What is Keratin by Jaclynn Kate

So you went somewhere else and your double process bleached your hair and now it's a frizzy damaged mess? I hear this often. So in most cases your hairdresser will suggest for you to get a Keratin treatment. Often times when I suggest this to my clients, they respond with 'well what exactly is a keratin'? So I'm going to take the time to break it down for you.

What Is Keratin? It's a protein that's naturally in your hair.

How It Works: A stylist applies a keratin hair-straightening product to your hair and then uses the blow dryer to seal it in following the use of a flat iron to seal it in. The process takes about 90 minutes or longer, depending on your hair's length. Our salon uses the keratin product Keratin Complex Smoothing Therapy by Coppola.

Time-Saving Tresses: If you usually style your hair straight, a keratin hair-straightening treatment could shorten your blow-dry time by 40% to 60%.

Farewell, Frizz: You can forget about frizzy hair after treatment. "You could walk out in moist or light rain and your hair won’t change," if your stylist did it correctly.

Wait Before You Wash: You shouldn't wash your hair for three or four days after getting the treatment. That's because the solution takes time to work.

Upkeep: After you get a keratin hair treatment, and after the don't-wash waiting period, you should use sodium-sulfate-free shampoo to help maintain the treatment. It is recommended to use the same brand of Keratin shampoo to ensure the longevity of the treatment. These products were made to work together. Protect your investment.

How Long It Lasts: Expect the results to last three - six months depending upon which level of treatment you requested to receive.
Keratin treatments won't make your hair break, but the flat-ironing might. "The hair breakage has nothing to do with the treatments and everything to do with the flat irons that are used to dry and seal the hair afterward," says New York dermatologist Neil Sadick, MD. "Some stylists may use a flat iron that is way too hot and scorches hair, making it break off."
Keratin is more of a restorative treatment, even if you have a good hair type, it still strengthens the hair shaft and makes your hair more resilient."

Here's a little before & after of one of my bridal clients whom I did a Keratin treatment on.
As you can see from the photo to the left, her hair has SO much unwanted volume with frizz. To the right after the treatment her hair is silky smooth, shiny and pin straight. She loved the results and loves how much less time it takes her to dry it in the morning.

Red Hair Styles In Rhode Island

Red Hair Styles In Rhode Island

Before & After Red Hair Coloring

Salon in Rhode Island

Red Hair Styles In Rhode Island By Jaclynn Kate

Red red red!! Red is such a popular request in our salon. I personally LOVE red hair!! It is however one of thee hardest colors to get IN the hair & the hardest color to get 100% OUT of the hair. I know, that kind of sounded like a double negative so I'll explain.

So hair types just don't take well to the color red. Very damaged hair also has a hard time taking to red & the color washes out very quickly due to the porosity on the hair follicle. Now even though its' hard to get in the hair, it's equally as hard to get out of the hair. You will find when you are lifting the color out you're struggling to get the pink out of the hair. Most times you have to use a higher volume developer when lifting or your stuck doing a double process bleach. Which we all know isn't the best for our locks.

For example, meet my client Heather. Heather was a dirty brown color when she came into the salon. She asked me be a candy apple red for Valentines Day. So looking at her hair color then & where she wanted to be, I immediately knew I had to lift some of the color out of her hair so she could get the vibrancy she was looking for. I preformed a Soap cap on her & then proceeded to do a straight up R on her. Let it sit for the 20 minutes. Washed it out. It ALL CAME OUT. NO RED. Why? Because her hair is pretty porous due to the flip flopping between colors so often. Therefore the color wouldn't stay. It was on to process #2 with a higher deposit, & boom it was perfect!!

The vibrancy was AMAZING. Heather loved it, and couldn't get enough of how fabulous she was going to look on Valentines Day with her hunny =]

Meet my best friend & hair client Kim! Kim LOVES red hair color & always tells me her hair doesn't hold red. So initially I didn't listed to her and said I could do it! lol

I used a 6RR with a high volume and a red kicker. Went to wash it off and it was an off brownish color in the sink. Initially I was not happy so I went in the back and took some Redken RED Shades over it & let it sit for 15 minutes. Dried it up & man was it a pretty red!!

I put some red highlights on the top  of her hair too. Those didn't come out as red as I had anticipated, but overall she was stunned!! I saw Kim about 4 weeks later and most of the red had washed out like she said it would. I think we are going to do a redo & try to seal it with another product to prolong the lifeline of the red in her hair.

Meet one of my longest clients & friends, Sara! I've been dong Sara's hair for about 5 years now & she has always been a flip flopper. EVERYTIME she comes in she wants to change it up! Which is great for me cause I get to try new things & she's on cloud nine when she leaves the salon.

I went away on Vacation & Sara went somewhere else for a color & cut. Which btw who ever did it did a fantastic hair cut on her <3 <3

But her hair color was far too brown for Sara & She wanted to get rid of the copper & go red. Sara goes red all the time, this is nothing new for her or her hair.

Try #1. I brought Sara in, colored her base color a level 4 & bleached the ends of her hair to a light blonde to deposit a red on top and make it look balayage. - FAIL - Not even the base color changed!!! And then when I washed the red out it barely stained her hair. - FAIL-

Try #2 I went a bit deeper with her base color & tried again on her ends. -FAIL- Ends didn't take. Her hair was so stressed & what ever color that was used prior just wouldn't give.

Try #3 All over color. Wash it out. Bleached the ends. Washed it out. Dried it up. Permanent color over the end blended up. = Perfection.

The vibrancy and the placement of the red is just beautiful! I know it took up some trial & errors with her hair not cooperating, but sometimes that happens. A lot of the time we have clients come in with pictures of Guy Tangs work and think that  the style in the photo can be done in 2 hours or one sitting. Not knowing how your hair is going to take to the color has a lot to do with the outcome. Sometimes you have to have a few sittings to get the perfect color you want or you can sit in the salon for 12 hours. Sara's service took all together with trial & error 9 hours.

Having realistic expectations and having a serious detailed conversation with your stylist is VERY important. Make sure you both are on the same page & remember to be open minded. <3 <3

Red Balayage - Jaclynn Kate Hair & Makeup Artistry Salon North Kingstown RI

I've been wanting a Red Balayage

Red Balayage By Jaclynn Kate

Red Balayage -

After opening the salon I had put our a groupon for one of my new stylist to gain clientele. One of the groupons was for an Ombre or a Balayage with her. Moving forward a client came into our salon off of the groupon explaining she had gotten a Balayage done but was not satisfied with it. So I decided I would complete the Balayage to her liking.

This is the look Min came in with. She was dissatisfied with the layers that weren't blending and the color was not the level 10 blonde she had anticipated. I began to tell Min that I could not bring her to that bleach bleach blonde level 10 she was looking for without double processing her hair & possibly doing some damage.

She agreed that wasn't the best idea for her hair & asked if I could do a vibrant red. Red?!? I LOVE RED!!

This was the ending RED.

Min LOVED her hair color. It was a bit more Bayalage then I would have done, however given the process that was already done this was the best option. And did I mention she LOVED it?
