Red Balayage - Jaclynn Kate Hair & Makeup Artistry Salon North Kingstown RI

I've been wanting a Red Balayage

Red Balayage By Jaclynn Kate

Red Balayage -

After opening the salon I had put our a groupon for one of my new stylist to gain clientele. One of the groupons was for an Ombre or a Balayage with her. Moving forward a client came into our salon off of the groupon explaining she had gotten a Balayage done but was not satisfied with it. So I decided I would complete the Balayage to her liking.

This is the look Min came in with. She was dissatisfied with the layers that weren't blending and the color was not the level 10 blonde she had anticipated. I began to tell Min that I could not bring her to that bleach bleach blonde level 10 she was looking for without double processing her hair & possibly doing some damage.

She agreed that wasn't the best idea for her hair & asked if I could do a vibrant red. Red?!? I LOVE RED!!

This was the ending RED.

Min LOVED her hair color. It was a bit more Bayalage then I would have done, however given the process that was already done this was the best option. And did I mention she LOVED it?

Welcome To Jaclynn Kate Hair & Makeup Artistry!

Welcome To Jaclynn Kate Hair & Makeup Artistry!

A Classic, Elegant, Beautifying Salon

Back in November 2013, I had sat down & written down my goals for 2014. What it was that I wanted in 2014, what I wanted to accomplish and most importantly what was going to make me happy. While buying a new car was at the top of my list, furthing my dream to be a salon owner clearly won. I set a date when I wanted to open my salon & my mission had started. I started reading TONS of books on motivation, negotiation, sales, salon entrepreneurship, and how to balance work & life. Upon the constant reading I was also meeting with my mentor once a week and trying to complete my business plan- UGH business plan. Let me just say that was one of the most ANNOYING but most helpful things I have ever had to do in my life.

After about a month and a half of this cycle ( still not complete ) I started shopping for the best location to open shop. I viewed a handful of commercial properties, however their was a salon either right next door or they weren't zoned to have the salon there... DOOR #1 SHUT on my dreams. Then when I entered my now location I knew it was perfect!!

Now back to the business plan.... within the business plan is a wonderful start up cost sheet. I had to then set a budget and prepare to ask the bank for a loan with my completed business plan and a bunch of other paper work. First bank I went to was Webster & they had super high interest rates & required a higher credit score then I had, so that was  DOOR #2 SHUT on my dreams.

Second bank I went to was Coastway & they were perfect! Interest rates were great, I had almost all my paper work in place & I was on my way to getting my loan! Now I just had to wait for my taxes, cause I needed three years of taxes to show I wasn't a brand new start up business but expanding on my current business. Finally my taxes come in & Im ready for this loan. I apply & Im all excited thinking in 30 days I am going to have my loan!! Few hours go by and the banker calls me... umm although your credit meets standards you do have a balance from 2008 for a hospital bill for an Xray, we can not submit this application it will be denied right away & it will take months to get off your credit score. MIND YOU I was pregnant at the time of this "Xray" and have tried NUMEROUS times to have it taken off cause you CANNOT get X-rays while being pregnant and its still there -sigh- so again DOOR #3 SHUT on my dreams.

Now Im pissed (excuse the language). But this image is all I can think of: & I can't give up..
Again, Im back to the drawing board.
I take what I have in savings & cut my budget seriously down in size & say this is going to happen. Ill figure it out. Remake a new business plan with a new budget & now I'm a construction worker, painter, flooring gal etc. you name it I'm wearing the hat.

This is what I got! A MESS! You see those walls? Yeah those are for retail stores & are SO heavy to get off!! I got hit in the arm when the first one came down & it knocked me on my butt! OUCH!

View looking at the front
Now I have to rip up that UGLY carpet. Yes, with a crow bar & knife LMAO!!
After ripping up the carpet & picking out my flooring, I was told I couldn't put the flooring over carpet glue, it had to be level. So here I am SANDING glue - ew.
This is my back accent wall lol.. yes I made it & it's ghetto looking...but it's my awesome ghetto wall that I will make pretty =] yay I have sinks!
Now as you can see I have made the back wall, painted the walls & now I am doing the flooring... Putting down flooring was NOT fun lol. Measuring, cutting, measuring cutting ugh. How do people do that for a living?!?!

Then in the midst of the remodeling.. I go to apply for my licenses and am told I CANNOT have a salon there because they are unsure if it is septic or not!!! WHAT?! So for THREE weeks I am going back & forth to Providence fighting with the state trying to get this fixed & that was ALMOST door #4 closed... luckily a nice man came out & approved me =] Gods pretty good like that.

Here is my desk, & two nail stations.. Behind the nail stations our pedicure stations will go.. probably take another week or so =]Hair stations & my lovely back accent wall
Waiting area & far left makeup station

We are not 100% finished, I have some beautiful vintage mirrors that were gifted to me that have to go up. Pedicure chairs to go up- even though they're red - yuck. And behind the wash sinks is our break room & the other side I am building a wall for our esthetics room!

Moral of my journey is never stop your dream because everyone wants to tell you no. If you have a dream, write it down, make a plan, and hustle as hard as you can every single day till it's a reality. People can laugh at you and say it's not going to happen you dream too big, but just remember Thomas Edison had a dream & it changed our lives & everyone thought he was crazy & couldn't do it either <3

Thanks for reading & stop by for a complimentary wash & style with mention of this blog!
